Methane Pipelines (A Sample Petition)

Michael S. Regan, Administrator of the EPA

Thank you for proposing new federal policies on methane pipelines.

The climate crisis is taking an enormous toll on human life, our communities, and our world. Communities of color and vulnerable communities are the hardest hit by the climate crisis and are more likely to experience health impacts because of climate pollution.

As a person of faith and conscience, I believe we have a moral responsibility to care for our communities, neighbors, and the environment.

That’s why I’m writing to urge EPA to go even further and make these rules around methane pipelines stronger. The rule should expand the number of methane pipelines covered and speed up the compliance timeline. EPA should also increase safeguards for communities to provide public input to ensure that mitigation technologies do not exacerbate environmental injustices or local air pollution.

A stronger rule is what is needed to tackle the climate crisis, protect our health, and slash pollution that harms our communities — especially those that have been disproportionately harmed and that live near methane pipelines.

Thank you,

Why is this important?

The provisions of the new regulations for methane pipelines in conjunction with the Investment Reduction Act and our country's climate change commitments are an essential part of advancing safety for American communities' safety and helping meet our climate commitments for 2030.

How it will be delivered
